Dreadcrumbs

Hello, daybreak, my old friend
I’ve come to bargain, barter, spend
Let’s cut a corner of the clock
trade pizza teeth and chomp tick tocks
My tongue is hot
my time is too
Best hit the bricks
What’s it to you?
I’ve made my humble sacrifice
upon the blue line shrine
But my shoulder devil’s laughing
and the angel’s out of line
So how am I to tell if what I offer is enough?
My brain remains
in graphite chains
It’s swelling at the cuff
So take this meager morsel now
we broke our bread today
Release me from your iron grip
and let me walk away
